PsyFi vs Mentalyc

Partly. PsyFi Scribe (browser extension) is a scribe for Zoom, Google Meet, and SimplePractice with speaker identification. PsyFiGPT (the chat product) is a separate, broader AI — drafting, brainstorming, document upload, and RAG-cited clinical lookups. Together they cover both transcription and chat-based clinical AI. Mentalyc is scribe-first and does not include a general chat assistant.

Both PsyFi and Mentalyc include a BAA on every paid plan and host on AWS in the US. PsyFi's PHI de-identification uses Microsoft Presidio and is tenant-configurable. Mentalyc anonymizes transcripts before LLM processing with a "full" or "partial" (retains first names) option, and deletes recordings immediately after note generation.

PsyFiGPT (Pro and Premium) ships RAG Search over curated, peer-reviewed psychology references with citations embedded in drafts. This is a core differentiator: clinical-guideline retrieval is not advertised as a Mentalyc feature today. If you need evidence-backed phrasing in progress notes, treatment plans, or supervision documentation, PsyFi's RAG is the relevant comparison point.

Mentalyc publishes a broader template catalog today — SOAP, DAP, BIRP, GIRP, PIRP, PIE, intake, supervision, and 100+ custom templates on Pro and above. PsyFiGPT ships SOAP, DAP, intake, and evaluation templates with modality-aware drafting (CBT, DBT, EMDR). If your practice documents in BIRP, GIRP, or PIE, Mentalyc has those off the shelf; PsyFi can produce them via the chat interface but doesn't ship them as named templates.

For a solo behavioral-health clinician at typical caseload (~80 notes/month): PsyFiGPT Pro is $30/month with 200 requests/day and RAG citations included. Mentalyc Basic is $39.99/month (or $29.99 annual) with 100 notes/month. PsyFi Scribe (audio extension) is included with a PsyFiGPT subscription. Mentalyc's pricing scales primarily on note volume; PsyFi's scales on daily request quota plus feature tier. The right answer depends on whether you also want chat AI and citable references, not just transcription.

Mentalyc's Chrome extension pushes finished notes into SimplePractice, TherapyNotes, Jane App, TheraNest, ICANotes, Valant, and any web-based EHR — copy-free into the client chart. PsyFi Scribe currently ships a SimplePractice browser-extension integration; broader EHR push integrations are on the roadmap. If your practice runs on TherapyNotes or Jane and you want notes appearing inside the chart without copy-paste, Mentalyc is closer today.

PsyFiGPT runs on GPT-4o and GPT-5 via Azure OpenAI Enterprise (training opt-out, no prompts used to train models). Mentalyc does not publish its underlying model provider on its public pages.

AI-generated clinical documentation should always be reviewed and approved by a licensed clinician before use in billing, legal, or clinical records. Both PsyFi and Mentalyc are tools to assist drafting; the clinician remains responsible for the final content.
